Spin Me Round Like a Record: Pure Ice Vinyl Remix

2012-06-18

I am not a huge fan of crackle/shatter polishes.  To me it looks, well, unpolished and ragged.  The Pure Ice Vinyl Remix  polishes are different.  The Vinyl Remix polish comes in a set of two polishes, a base coat and the crackle top coat, and as and added bonus you get a cute little nail file shaped like a (vinyl) record.  I wish I had remembered to take a picture of the package before I broke into them to put them on.

First you start with the Platinum Magic Base Coat.  In reality it looks like a typical white polish but I have to believe there is something in the polish that creates the magic.  Why else would they call it Platinum Magic Base Coat?  One coat will suffice.

Now, brush on a layer of the top coat. Don’t be too heavy with the crackle coat or it won’t crack nicely.  To thin a coat will make tiny cracks in the top coat and shrink the look of the crackle.  Within a few seconds what went on looking almost black starts to crackle and every so slowly the color bleeds into the white base coat.  It is so fun to watch the change.

The colors of the polish on my nails in these pictures, from left to right, are Rave (orange), Vintage Remix (purple), DJ Spinner (green), and Emcee Me (yellow).  Pure Ice polishes can be purchased at Walmart or Walgreens.

So what are your thoughts on these crackle polishes?  Although I am not a fan of the crackle look these were a lot of fun to wear.  I can see myself sporting nails like this around Halloween but this would not ben an everyday manicure for me.

UPDATE:  I swatched these polishes some time ago but I got distracted by all the new sparkly Indie polishes being released and time got away from me. I decided to do a little investigating about the product and the brand since I never actually saw these polishes in the store.  The Pure Ice website as well as their Facebook page have been taken down.  What I did find out was that Revlon has purchased portions of the Bari Cosmetics company including Pure Ice and Bon Bons cosmetics.  More information can be found here.  Hopefully there are new and exciting changes on the horizon for Pure Ice.

These polishes were sent to me for review.

  1. I found these polishes in Walmart in Arkansas. I bought all six of the polishes. It is very hard to find them even on the Bari site.
